A Partial Hip Replacement is a surgical procedure to replace the damaged ball part of your hip joint. Here's a basic overview of the process:
- A surgeon makes an incision on the side of your hip to access the joint.
- The muscles and tissues are carefully moved aside to expose the hip joint.
- The damaged head of the femur (the ball part) is removed.
- The bone is shaped to fit the new prosthetic implant.
- The prosthetic ball, often made of metal or ceramic, is inserted into the prepared bone. It can be secured with cement or by allowing the bone to grow into it.
- The muscles and tissues are repositioned, and the incision is closed.
